Anyone ignoring the rule could face a fine of £3,600

120 vehicles were caught ignoring a “no entry” sign during a 90 minute period yesterday as they attempted to find a shortcut to beat traffic queues caused by roadworks.   Now Banbury Neighbourhood Policing Team are warning people they could face a £3,600 fine if they ignore the “no entry” instruction.

Officers watched the Banbury Lane just south of the A422 on the approaches to Nethercote.   Before the village there is a pinch point with a “no entry” sign and wording painted on the road advising motorists they can proceed no further.

Following reports of vehicles contravening the sign the Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted a patrol.    During the 90 minute period they turned around 120 vehicles.

In a statement officers said: “The No Entry sign is there to protect the villagers, this is a single track road which is not designed or appropriate for use as a short cut.

“We appreciate the traffic issues on the A422 are causing delays but would advise you to allow extra time for your journey or find an alternative route.

“Driving though a No Entry sign is not the answer and could have resulted in fines of £3600 if Officers had not issued warnings/advice”.
