Free school meals during the holidays and the Residents Support Scheme are set to continue
Oxfordshire County Council’s Liberal Democrat Cabinet met for the final time yesterday afternoon ahead of the local elections on Thursday next week.
They approved a new £6.7m Cost of Living support package to help the people in the county who are most negatively impacted by cost-of-living pressures.
Items in the programme include £3.4m to provide free school meal support during the school holidays. A further £1.7m will enable the Residents Support Scheme to continue distributing supermarket vouchers, energy credit and essential household items.
£0.5m will be delegated to Oxfordshire’s city and district councils to distribute via their own local emergency welfare schemes.
Most of the cash is being provided from the government’s Household Support Fund, which has been extended through to the end of March next year, but the County Council is providing an additional £385,000 for Community Wealth Building and Support for Advice Services.
