Keep Hanwell Village Rural Action Group is encouraging people from surrounding villages to get involved

An action group which is fighting to stop development in the fields around the villages to the north of Banbury is looking for more people to come forward to help them.   In the face of a number of active planning issues, the team behind the Keep Hanwell Village Rural Action Group are seeking individuals who can help with fundraising, leafleting, events and attending their monthly meetings.

One of the group’s most prolific campaigns has been against an outline planning application by the Vistry Group for 170 new homes in the only remaining fields between Hanwell and the edge of Banbury.

Cherwell District Council received over 470 letters of objection to the proposal.   Local Parish Councils also objected alongside Banbury Town Council, who described the gap between the edge of Banbury and Hanwell as “of vital importance”.

A separate planning application for 176 new houses on open land to the north of Dukes Meadow in Banbury is set to be decided at a Planning meeting next Thursday.   Officers are recommending permission be refused.

The Action Group are also concerned about proposals for an 80.5 hectare solar farm in fields to the north of Hanwell, mainly between the B4100 and the M40.  They say this is also a threat to the neighbouring villages of Horley, Shotteswell, Great Bourton and Mollington.

Keep Hanwell Village Rural Action Group are hoping people will come forward to help with their campaign work.

A spokesperson said: “The Action Group team is small and we now need to bring in new members to take on the task to put a stop to this latest development.

“We need new members from Horley, Shotteswell, The Bourtons, Mollington and from Hanwell. If you could offer a couple of hours each month to help with fundraising, leafleting, events and attending our monthly meeting, you’ll be very welcomed.”
