Approval recommended for 95 more houses next to Bloxham recreation ground

Cherwell’s failure to achieve a five-year housing land supply figure is the key deciding factor
Planning officers have recommended approval of another 95 new homes in Bloxham.
This time its on the farm fields next to Bloxham Recreation Ground.
The outline application, submitted by David Wilson Homes South Midlands, is for land off the South Newington Road.
The proposed development would include a mix of homes, landscaped green space, drainage ponds and a green corridor through the site. A buffer zone is also planned alongside the nearby Slade Nature Reserve.
The recommendation is for councillors to grant planning permission. The primary reason in favour of the application is to help Cherwell achieve its five-year housing land supply figure.
Oxfordshire County Council has requested the developer contribute £960,298 towards the expansion of Bloxham Primary School and special education, but a report to councillors notes the applicant has raised concerns that the amount is not currently justified.
The site is not included in the Bloxham’s local plan, which is due to be voted on in a referendum in August. Ahead of that the plan offers limited sway to the decision making process.
The Planning Committee will consider the application and make their decision next Thursday.
