Youngsters from Banbury’s School For Stars are preparing for a trip to Dublin next week to represent their country at this year’s Dance World Cup.

The 11-day event is the largest all-genre dance competition in the world, featuring thousands of qualified young dancers from over 70 countries.

The Banbury contingent have 26 entries this year – twice the number they entered in Spain last year with the youngest dancer aged just six.

Thirteen-year-old Amelia Thompson has the honour of being the Team England captain.

Tee Lilly, head dance principal, acknowledges what a very special experience this is for her young dancers.   She said: “It’s just amazing for the kids to be able to step onto a world stage and do what they love in different countries.

“Some kids have never flown before, so they’re getting to fly to new places, all come together and dance.   Obviously, for all the families as well, it’s an amazing thing to all come together and make lots of memories with their children and with each other.”

The School For Stars’ entries were submitted last November.   Tee said it was a magical moment when they found out they had qualified: “We brought all the parents in – it was our end of year show …. There was lots of happy tears, lots of screaming, lots of excitement.”
