24/06/2026

Schools have closed and public transport is disrupted
A red heat warning came into force across our area at 9am today with meteorologists predicting temperatures could reach in excess of 36 Celsius.
A number of local schools have closed due to predicted high temperatures in classrooms.
Bloxham Grove Academy, Frank Wise School, Magdelen College in Brackley and the Warriner school in Bloxham confirmed they are shut both today and tomorrow.
Students at North Oxfordshire Academy were in school this morning but finished at lunchtime.
On the trains both Chiltern Railways and Cross Country are operating a reduced service and advising people that disruption can be expected. The advice is not to travel unless you have to. The disruption is expected to continue through Friday.
Cherwell District Council’s refuse teams started work early to avoid the peak of the heat and the Household Waste and Recycling Centres at Alkerton and Farthinghoe are closing early.
A comprehensive overview of the situation is available in our Hot Weather Guide.
