58% of the branch customers now use mobile, online or telephone banking

The Banbury branch of the TSB is set to close. The bank premises at 61 High Street will shut for the final time on May 31.

The closure is one of nine identified by TSB scheduled for this year. The bank previously announced 70 other branches around the country would close in 2022.

In a review of the Banbury branch the bank said that 58% of its customers now use mobile, online or telephone banking.

For those still needing to visit the bank in person TSB suggests its Witney branch as one of the closest, which they say is a 40 minute drive from the closing Banbury branch, with free parking nearby. They do say it isn’t currently possible to get to the Witney branch using public transport.

36% of the Banbury branch’s customers are aged 65 and over.

A TSB spokesperson told Banbury FM: “We have not taken the decision to close Banbury branch lightly, but our customers are banking differently – with more using digital banking.

“Customer transactions at the branch have fallen by 37% between November 2020 and November 2022. There is also a Post Office or free to use ATM within a mile of the branch.”
