Thames Valley Police are warning people to “be aware who you scare this Halloween”.

The force has issued a message saying that whilst Halloween is an exciting time for many, not everyone is happy to have their home visited by trick or treaters.

The advice for those planning on heading out is to be considerate of those who may find large groups of people in scary costumes intimidating.   Those trick or treating should also only visit the homes of people they know well or who are clearly displaying Halloween decorations.

Officers will be conducting extra patrols around the area.   They advise people not to open their door if they aren’t sure who is there, utilising a door chain and checking through a window before deciding whether to open up.

In Kings Sutton villagers have created a Halloween Trick or Treat Village Map.   This aims to keep both people in their homes and trick-or-treaters safe, allowing those joining in to plan a trail and only visit houses that are taking part.

Meanwhile Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue are reminding people to check that any costumes or masks worn are labelled as flame-resistant, with children kept away from any naked flames.
