Banbury’s MP met with members of the hospital Trust board on Friday

The dossier on birthing traumas experienced by local mothers since the Horton’s maternity unit was downgraded to a midwife led service was raised by Banbury’s MP when he met with hospital bosses at the Horton’s Maternity Unit last week.

Sean Woodcock also raised the Keep The Horton General group’s campaign and the need to ensure that women across North Oxfordshire have access to the best possible maternity care.

He met with members of the Oxford University Hospital’s Trust Board on Friday to discuss the work carried out by the trust to support maternity services and invest in the Horton General Hospital.

Whilst seeing first-hand the work undertaken by hard-working staff Mr Woodcock learned of recent investment and developments at the hospital, and opportunities and priorities around the NHS 10 year plan.   Meeting the MP were Professor Andrew Brent (OUH Chief Medical Officer), Yvonne Christley (Chief Nursing Officer), Milica Redfearn (Director of Midwifery), and Sharon Andrews (Head of Midwifery).

Mr Woodcock said: “I’d like to thank Professor Brent and the maternity team for welcoming me to the Maternity unit last week. It was great to meet members of the team, and to see for myself their passion to provide high quality clinical care.

“I was born at the Horton, and I will always fight for investment in our local hospital. I hope that Labour’s 10 year plan for the NHS will provide lots of opportunities for the Horton, and support the wonderful work that staff at the hospital do every day.”

Professor Andrew Brent, Chief Medical Officer at OUH, said: “It was a great pleasure to meet Mr Woodcock together with our maternity colleagues, and to have the opportunity to show him around our maternity unit and discuss at length the work we have been doing to strengthen and support the maternity service and other services at the Horton General Hospital.

“What I think came across very powerfully during the visit was the dedication of the team in caring for our patients, as well as Mr Woodcock’s commitment to the hospital and the sense of loyalty and passion from Banbury residents.

“We are very grateful to all our staff at the Horton General Hospital who share this passion and work incredibly hard to deliver the best possible care.”
