Bloxham residents urged to support Neighbourhood Plan in referendum

This is one of the final stages for a process that began in October 2023

Residents in Bloxham will have the final say on their village’s proposed new Neighbourhood Plan when a referendum takes place on Thursday August 27.

The draft plan has been approved by an independent examiner and Cherwell District Council, meaning it can now be put to a public vote.   If a majority of residents vote in favour, it will become part of the planning framework used to help determine future development in the village.

The Parish Council is urging villagers to support the plan, which would establish a development boundary to limit where new building can take place, influence the type of homes built, protect the Conservation Area and green spaces, and help shape future infrastructure.

Land behind Courtington Lane has been identified within the plan for additional housing, although no planning application has been submitted.   The council acknowledges that some residents may feel enough housing has already been approved in Bloxham, but it says adopting the plan would help protect the village from further speculative development.

In a statement the Parish Council said: “By choosing to approve the draft Neighbourhood Plan, you take a vital step towards stopping additional, uncontrolled development and ensuring that the residents of Bloxham once more, have a place in the discussion about the future of our village.

“Please support your village and your Parish Council by voting to approve on 27 August 2026.”

Work to review the Neighbourhood Plan began in October 2023.  The referendum is one of the final stages before the draft plan becomes an official framework.
