Cash boost for Banbury Litter Pickers as they work to keep the town tidy

They recently filled over 50 bags as part of the Great British Spring Clean
Banbury Litter Pickers have been awarded a grant of £700 from Active Oxfordshire to carry out litter clearing work in the Ruscote and Hardwick wards of Banbury.
The group of local volunteers and campaigners have been working hard to clear our streets of rubbish for a number of years. They are hoping more people will join their group to help keep our area tidy.
The new funding will bolster the existing support given to the group by Cherwell District Council, who already supply some of the equipment they use, including litter picking sticks and bags.
Banbury Litter Pickers recently took part in the Great British Spring Clean week and filled over 50 bags of rubbish during a group picking event around Hanwell Fields, and individual picks in places such as Banbury Rise, Southam Road and Ruscote Park.
In a drive to get more people involved a new Banbury Litter Pickers facebook page has been launched where updates on group picking events and activities will be posted so people can get involved.
Co-ordinator Steve Kilsby said: “We’re excited to see what this new funding from Active Oxfordshire allows us to achieve in our mission of making Banbury clean again!
“Watch out for our adverts and come and join our passionate group of volunteers. We often find unexpected and interesting things whilst litter picking so it’s always surprising what people leave around.
“We thoroughly enjoy the sense of community litter picking brings to everyone that gets involved, and we hope to see more volunteers take part.
“You can do your own thing and join one of our groups, or head out on your own with friends, all we ask is you give it a go.
“Banbury Litter Pickers is growing, and we need more people to be a part of it. Come and join us – you know you want to!”
The group is encouraging people to head out in their spare time, either on their own, or with friends and family to clean up their local areas, as many of their existing members already do. Volunteers then proudly post photos of their filled bags on the group’s page.
