The camera has been out of action for around three years

A Banbury CCTV camera which hasn’t been working for the last three years is finally operational again, after local councillors kept pushing for a resolution to the problem.

The camera is at the junction of Edmunds Road and Bretch Hill, close to the Bradley Arcade shops.   At local Community Forum meetings residents had aired their concerns that the camera wasn’t operational, in the wake of a number of cases of anti-social behaviour in the area.

The issue was raised on a number of occasions at Cherwell District Council by Councillor Mark Cherry, who is one of those representing the area.

Councillor Amanda Watkins, the leader of the Labour group at Cherwell District Council, thanked Thames Valley Police and officers at Cherwell District Council for their tenacity in finally reaching a resolution.    She said: “It is essential to have this CCTV in place, as it will aid community safety by helping to keep crime off the streets.

“Thanks also to fellow Councillors, especially Mark Cherry, who has ensured that this matter has been kept at the forefront of the work we undertake for Ruscote Ward residents and refusing to give up on it.

“This is a great example of teamwork.”
