The project increases tree cover and provides a sustainable source of delicious seasonal fruit

Work to create a community orchard in Banbury to commemorate the Coronation of King Charles III has been completed.

The project was organised by Banbury Town Council with trees planted at various sites around the town.   Volunteer tree wardens were recruited to help plant the trees. They will now nurture them through their early years of growth.

In time the trees will provide free fruit for local people.

In total 60 fruit trees were planted including varieties of apple, pear and other seasonal fruit.

Councillor Martin Philips, chairman of the council’s general services committee, said: “Our aim … was not only to increase tree cover within the urban landscape but also to provide a sustainable source of delicious seasonal fruit for the local community.

“Through the dedication of our volunteers and tree wardens, we have not only achieved these goals but also created vibrant green spaces that benefit both people and wildlife.   Their dedication to preserving our natural heritage is truly commendable, and we are immensely grateful for their invaluable contribution to the Banbury community.”

Banbury’s Urban Orchard is part of a nationwide initiative set up to commemorate the coronation of King Charles III.
