The money will support commissioning a detailed options appraisal and feasibility studies

Cherwell District Council’s Executive has agreed to spend £0.25m on work to understand how vacant spaces in Castle Quay could be repurposed to create a more vibrant town centre.

The cash, which is being drawn from the council’s reserves, will fund detailed studies that will identify viable long-term options.   It will also guide strategic direction and support future investment in the centre, with the aim of maximising the site’s regeneration potential.

Councillor David Hingley, the council’s Finance Portfolio Holder, told a meeting of the Executive last night that the funding will be used to support the commissioning of a detailed options appraisal and feasibility studies.

He said: “We are exploring how we can look at underused and long-term vacant spaces within Castle Quay and how they might be repurposed to fulfil our ambitions of helping to create a more vibrant town centre.

That work is going to consider a stronger mix of uses to help the area continue adapting to changing consumer trends and to better meet the needs of our residents, businesses and visitors.”
