Issues need to be reported rather than posted on social media

A local councillor and former Banbury Town Mayor is urging people to report all cases of anti-social behaviour to the police, in the face of ongoing problems in Princess Diana Park and on the Bretch Hill estate.

Councillor Mark Cherry, who chairs the local community forum, has described the situation as “intolerable”.

He’s urging anyone witnessing anti-social behaviour to report it to the police on 101 so the issue can be tackled.

Councillor Cherry said: “I’ve been made aware of increased anti-social behaviour at Princess Diana Park and [on the] Bretch Hill estate in the form of youths on motorbikes.

“This is intolerable to the general public and children that use public parks …

“I would urge the public to report to Thames Valley Police any occurrences on 101 or online … In this way this type of antisocial behaviour can be tackled with an evidence based multi-agency approach.”

The Banbury Neighbourhood Policing team have been running Operation Jazzman to tackle the problem, but are sometimes hampered by not being made aware of an ongoing situation when people have chosen to write about the issue on social media platforms, such as Facebook, rather than reporting it to them.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police told Banbury FM: “The Neighbourhood Policing Team are aware of incidents of anti-social behaviour being caused by off-road bikes in areas around Bretch Hill and Princess Diana Park. Operation Jazzman is the team’s response to this and officers are proactively dealing with any roads policing related offences where the evidence allows.

“We encourage the community to report incidents to us via 101 or if you have information around those involved you can email the team on [email protected].”

if people do not report the police can do nothing.
it helps them to know what areas to target and,if no one complains the assumption is we are happy to tolerate.
the police at the moment are reactive, not proactive
