Council’s Executive to discuss next year’s budget

03/02/2025

Council tax, car parking and garden waste charges and money for Castle Quay are included

Cherwell District Council’s Executive will meet this evening and discuss the council’s proposed budget for 2025 to 2026.

Cherwell’s element of the Council Tax charge looks set to rise by £5 for a Band D property, taking the district element of the total bill householders will receive to £158.50 for a year.   Charges from the police, county and town or parish councils will be added to this.

Garden waste subscriptions are earmarked to rise by £3 and parking for an hour will increase by 10pence to £1.40.

The report to the Executive says the council has made prudent assumptions about lease renewals at the Castle Quay Shopping Centre, bearing in mind the current economic climate.   (The Council owns the shopping centre.)   Whilst the budget does not factor in the potential benefits of increased footfall associated with the council’s head office relocating to Castle Quay, next year’s income from the centre has been revised down by £1.17m compared to figures previously detailed in the council’s Medium Term Financial Strategy.

Meanwhile the council intends to spend £1.8m further developing Castle Quay over the next three years.

Final approval for the budget will be given at a full meeting on the council in a couple of weeks.
