Drop in to Lock 29 to learn what the new Local Plan is all about

Planning experts will be on hand this Saturday

We’ve got just a couple of weeks left to have our say on the shape of a new Local Plan for the Cherwell District.   That’s the document which, when approved, will be the guide as to how our area develops over the coming years and where new building will take place.

For those who haven’t had a chance to understand what’s being proposed a number of planning experts will be at an event in Lock 29 this Saturday to explain more.   Visitors will be able to ask questions about the plan-making process, find out about the policies being proposed and give feedback.

The consultation is the final formal stage of creating a new Local Plan, before the council submits it to a government-appointed planning inspector for independent examination.

Councillor Jean Conway, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Development Management, said: “When our new Local Plan is finalised, it will guide decisions on where new housing and infrastructure are delivered in the coming years. It also contains key policies to help us take action on climate change, support the local economy, and protect our heritage and natural landscapes.

“By their nature, Local Plans are very technical documents, so these events are a great chance to talk to the team in person and receive their help and guidance. Our hard-working officers have spent several years shaping the new Local Plan, gathering evidence to support it, and diligently working through the comments received during previous rounds of consultation to get it to this stage.

“The huge effort needed to put a Local Plan together can go unnoticed, and it is great that people will have the chance to speak face to face with officers before the Local Plan is submitted for examination by a planning inspector.”

Saturday’s consultation event runs from 11am to 3pm and people can drop in at any time.

The Plan is also available for consultation online here.
