Across the Banbury FM area new infections fell by 35% last week
Covid infection rates in the Banbury FM area fell by 35% last week – the first fall since December. In the seven days up to January 14 there were 1,074 new cases reported locally. The figure had reached a pandemic high of 1,652 during the previous week.
The falls in the number of positive cases are shown across every part of our area. In Banbury case numbers fell from 835 to 572, whilst in Brackley they fell from 218 to 137.
Whilst the reduction in the number of people testing positive for the virus is good news, infection rates still remain at some of the highest levels during the pandemic.
Yesterday the government announced that their Plan B rules were coming to an end. The request to work from home has now finished and from today face coverings are no longer advised for classrooms.
From next Thursday venues and events will no longer be required to use the NHS Covid Pass and face coverings won’t be required in any setting.
Public health guidance continues to suggest that people should continue to wear a face covering in crowded and enclosed spaces, where they come into contact with people they don’t normally meet.
