Fire fighters tackle blaze at waste site

01/06/2026

They were called shortly after midnight on Monday morning

Firefighters have been attending a fire at a waste site in Finmere.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 12:21am this morning.   Six fire engines attended – three from Oxfordshire and three from Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Crews have been using main jets on the fire, which involves waste materials.    They remain at the scene this afternoon.

Local residents were advised to shut their windows and doors whilst the incident was being dealt with.   Drivers were also warned that the smoke could affect the A421.

Back in 2018 hundreds of tonnes of waste went up in flames at the same landfill site.   Back then firefighters needed to pump water from a nearby lake to tackle the blaze.
