Several thousand votes have been cast so far

The first five Banbury FM’s Best winners have been announced.

The competition has had the area talking over the last couple of weeks with thousands of people voting to support the businesses they believe offer the best service, quality and value for money in our area.

Chilli and Pepper in Brackley were voted as serving the area’s best Indian food at the start of the week.   They received the good news the day after the owners celebrated their tenth anniversary of taking over the business.   Rahel Hussain said: “We’re truly blessed and have a wonderful customer base, many of whom we consider as friends now.

“We want to thank everyone who voted for us.   Being a local vote makes it special.”

A popular chippy which at peak times can have people queueing down the road was named as Banbury FM’s Best Chip Shop.   Jim Christoforou set up the Q-Fish Queensway Fish Saloon back in 1978.   His son Andrew is now helping run the family business.   He said: “We’re hard working, a great team and there’s so many people involved.   Its not just the people there now who are amazing, it’s the people who’ve been there in the past.

“We’ve got customers who’ve been coming for 30 or 40 years and people who support us from out of town.

“As I keep telling the staff, you’re only as good as the last bag of chips so we’ve got to keep it going.”

Mr Christoforou felt the competition had been a real boost for the area.   He said: “It’s great to see Banbury with so many categories and its good to put the town in the limelight.”

The highly contested winner of the award for Banbury FM’s Best Sunday Roast was announced on Friday morning.

The Brasenose Arms in Cropredy took the top spot, beating the Carvery at Banbury Masonic Hall into second place.

Ben Wild from the Brasenose Arms praised his team and thanked those who had voted for them.   He said: “Our chefs are the ones that put it all together and they are geniuses really – they’re very good.

“I would always recommend booking ahead.   We do allow people to walk in if we have space, but a lot of the time – certainly at half-past-one to two o’clock we will be fully booked.

“To all of our customers and friends and family who have been voting – thank you very much.”

Other winners this week include Trinder’s Barbershop who were named Banbury FM’s Best Barbers and Sainsbury who were named Best Supermarket.

Winners in the five remaining Banbury FM’s Best categories, including Best Chinese Food and Best Coffee shop, will be announced next week.   Voting is still open.
