At the final whistle Boston United celebrate as Brackley Town watch on

Final score: Brackley Town 1 Boston United 2

It was heartbreak once again for Brackley Town on Saturday, as they lost the National League North play-off final for a second consecutive season.

Boston United were their opponents at St James’s Park and things started well for the Saints who took the lead in 34th minute, as National League North player of the month Morgan Roberts “shinned” the ball in from 3 yards.

Earlier in the half Brackley Town had a goal disallowed for offside and Tyler Lyttle hit the woodwork from distance.

An equaliser on the stroke of half time turned the game, Keaton Ward scoring on his 24th birthday.

Brackley Town were second best after the break, and a 57th minute penalty by Jimmy Knowles ensured victory for Boston United and promotion to the National League.

A crowd of 3074 watched the game with Boston United bringing 900 with them.

Following the game Brackley Town congratulated their opponents and thanked their fans for the support this season.    The message concluded: “We go again”.
