Houses evacuated due to major fire in Banbury home

The cause of the fire is being investigated

A number of homes were evacuated after a major house fire broke out in Banbury late on Saturday night.

Five fire crews, four officers and Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Incident Support Unit were called to the blaze in Windrush at 11.44pm. The fire spread through the property, prompting a large emergency response.

The occupants managed to escape from the house and were treated at the scene by South Central Ambulance Service. Firefighters from Banbury, Deddington, Hook Norton, Bicester, Eynsham and later Burford worked for more than 12 hours to bring the incident under control.

Thames Valley Police and utility companies also attended to assist with the response.

The cause of the fire is being investigated. Fire crews said smoke alarms alerted the occupants, highlighting the importance of having working alarms installed on every level of a home.
