Local Councillors have been chasing the issue for residents
Long-awaited building maintenance work at Vulcan Court on the Warwick Road is about to get underway.
Scaffolding has surrounded the property for the last 18 months, with local Councillors concerned that no progress was being made. But housing provider GreenSquareAccord has told Banbury FM a contractor to complete the work has now been appointed, with work due to start during the first week in June.
Local councillors, Mark Cherry, Becky Clarke MBE and Dr Chukwudi Okeke, had spoken to some of the building’s tenants, who expressed their concerns at the lack of progress. A letter was sent to the housing provider asking them to give a timescale for removing the scaffolding.
Councillor Okeke said: “GreenSquareAccord responded that they have emailed their Planning Team to enquire when this will be removed and will get back to us within 7 days, but we have not heard from them since then.
“The residents of Vulcan Court and the neighbours have put up with this for about 18 months, and they are now tired of complaining about it. This is not acceptable; GreenSquareAccord need to listen to residents and remove the scaffolding as quickly as possible.”
A spokesperson from GreenSquareAccord told Banbury FM: “Last year we erected additional scaffolding and fencing at Vulcan Court.
“We did this to protect our customers and the public from the hazard of loose rendering and brick slip on the outside of the building.
“Since then, we have engaged a structural engineer who has provided advice on how to fix this issue.
“We have appointed a contractor to complete this work, and this will start during the first week in June.
“We have removed the fencing panels around Vulcan Court to minimise the inconvenience caused to our customers as we prioritise their safety.”
