Lights! Camera! Action! The Moonlight Walk goes to the movies

Walkers will dress as movie stars for the annual hospice fundraiser

The streets of Banbury will be filled with film stars this May as people put their best foot forward to support Katharine House Hospice’s flagship annual fundraiser.

This year’s Moonlight Walk has a theme of “Going to the Movies”, with people encouraged to dress up as their favourite film star.

Each year hundreds of walkers say “I’ll be back” to take part in the event, choosing a 6-mile or 10-mile route.

The Moonlight Walk, which is this year on Saturday May 20, will once again be based at Easington Sports Football Club.   The evening kicks off with a pre-walk picnic with movie-themed music and local food stalls.   Then walkers will say “Hasta la vista, baby” to the football club before heading off towards Bodicote ” … and beyond”!

First-time walkers and old pros will be turning up – people like Carla, who has taken part in the Moonlight Walk five times.

Carla said it was important to her to support the hospice: “Katharine House looked after both my nans and my gramp, as well as my mother-in-law in their final days of life. They provide amazing round-the-clock care and it’s such a welcoming place.”

Events Project Manager for Katharine House, Helen Lerwill, said: “The Moonlight Walk is one of our most popular, most successful events. Not only does it raise around £50,000 for us every year and it is always such a lot of fun. We’re excited about the theme this year. Everyone has their favourite film or favourite character and we’re really looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with!”
