Banbury's Children to benefit from generosity of locals

A huge response to the mayor of Banbury’s annual toy appeal means children who wouldn’t normally get presents will wake up on Christmas Day to find parcels at their bedsides.

Hundreds of toys for boys and girls aged from toddler to teenager were donated during this week’s appeal and they have been taken to the town’s children’s centres who will make sure the gifts go to homes where parents can’t afford a giving Christmas.

Mayor John Colegrave said: “Banbury Town Council has organised the toy appeal for the past 18 years and 2019 has seen one of the biggest responses ever.   The generosity of local people will give children of the town’s needy families the special Christmas Day that others take for granted.

“There are many reasons why some homes cannot afford a traditional Christmas and we are happy to work with the children’s centres to make sure everyone has lovely presents on the big day.   The gifts will make a fantastic difference to children whose school friends would have had lots of presents.”
