Member of the public grabs keys from car being driven dangerously

The driver ran off before police arrived but the vehicle was seized

A quick-thinking member of the public grabbed the car keys from a male who was driving dangerously in Banbury Town Centre on Saturday evening.   The driver was suspected of being under the influence.

The member of the public stepped in when the car came to a stop.   The driver ran off, but Thames Valley Police officers are working to identify who he is.

The vehicle was seized and the owner issued with a ticket for allowing her vehicle to be driven by a non-insured driver.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley police said: “Whilst we fully applaud the member of the public for doing this, please do not put yourself at risk if in similar circumstances.   If you suspect or know of anybody drink driving please report it to us.   You may just save a life.”
