Children and young people have been travelling to Oxford for appointments
Specialist hearing assessments for children and young people will soon be available at the Horton General Hospital.
An investment of £300,000 is being made to create a new paediatric audiology room. This soundproof environment, kitted out with specialist equipment, will enable clinicians to carry out a range of hearing assessments for children.
Currently many young people from north Oxfordshire travel to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for specialist audiology appointments.
The project is expected to be completed in October.
The development supports the NHS Long Term Plan’s commitment to delivering care closer to home, ensuring patients can access high-quality services in locations that are convenient for them whenever possible.
Rachel Humphriss, Clinical Scientist and Head of Audiology at Oxford University Hospitals Trust, said: “This is fantastic news for our young audiology patients in Banbury and the surrounding areas. This purpose-built facility will mean that they can attend their appointments much closer to home, as well as the benefits of specialist equipment and facilities.”
