Xmas Lunch for Older People Served Up By Local Company
Bibby Financial Services to provide Christmas lunch for isolated older people
Ninety local OAPs will tuck into a Christmas dinner today thanks to the staff at Bibby Financial Services in Adderbury. Age UK Oxfordshire have organised the group of around 90 isolated older people who will join Bibby’s staff at their Banbury Business Park offices on the Aynho Road at lunchtime.
The event follows on from a similar event run by the Bibby team in Yorkshire. Mike Day, Head of Sales, told Banbury FM, “I lost my father a couple of years ago over the Christmas period. He was a bit of an inspiration in doing things for older people. I decided to do something in his memory. So last year we organised a lunch for 100 people in the Yorkshire/Leeds area to combat loneliness”.
The success of the Yorkshire event last year has inspired Bibby’s Banbury staff to organise an event locally.
The team at Bibby’s will be providing a traditional Christmas lunch and entertainment at their in-house restaurant. Staff have been involved in creating the decorations for the day and will be on hand to ensure the OAPs enjoy themselves.
Edward Winterton, UK Chief Executive, said: “Christmas can be a tough time of year for many older people, particularly for those who live alone. At BFS we’re always keen to support local charities, so we’re thrilled to team up with Age UK Oxfordshire to help spread a little joy this Christmas to those who might otherwise spend the season alone.”
Children from King Sutton Primary School will be providing some entertainment by singing for the guests before their meal.
The cost of the event will be covered by Bibby Financial Services and other local companies who have sponsored tables and provided money for the entertainment and drinks.
