Parents learn of primary school place allocations

Less than 1 percent couldn’t be accommodated at any of their chosen schools
Parents and carers of children who will be starting primary education this September found out this morning at which school their child had been allocated a place.
In Oxfordshire 93.9 percent of pupils received the offer of the first preference school. The figure was 94.7 percent in West Northamptonshire, where 4,431 children will be starting primary school later this year.
For those in Oxfordshire where a place at their first preference school was not available only 0.8 percent couldn’t be offered a place at one of their other named preference schools – 0.45 percent in West Northamptonshire.
Families sometimes can’t be offered their first preference choice when applications for that school exceed available spaces.
Anyone who is unhappy with their allocated place can appeal by May 15.
Children’s names can also be added to waiting lists in case places subsequently become available at schools they are interested in, between now and September. Waiting lists open on June 22.
