How to deal with waste water was an issue with previous applications

Plans have been submitted to Cherwell District Council to demolish a former wigmaker’s factory close to Little Bourton, replacing it with five four-bedroom homes.

The site, just to the west of the Southam Road, sits next to Eden Hall and North Banbury Veterinary Centre.

The buildings had previously been used by Banbury Postiche, but have been empty for a number of years.

A previous application in 2018 to build 7 one-bedroom dwellings on the site was refused, as was a subsequent application in 2022 for 8 homes.

The latest proposal by Regentsgate Developments Ltd seeks to address planning officers previous concerns, including how to deal with waste water.   The site is not connected to a suitable public sewage system with the nearest service in Little Bourton.   The developer says this is too far away to affordably connect to.

An existing onsite waste tank is used by Eden Hall and this was also previously used by the factory, with a workforce of up to 100 employees.   The developer believes it is therefore capable of dealing with the output from five houses, albeit that it might need to be emptied more frequently than the historical bi-annual visits.

The public are now being invited to have their say on the application, with all comments due by May 9.
