A special operation has been launched ahead of anticipated increased demand
Thames Valley Police says it is ready for the FIFA Men’s World Cup 2026, with a dedicated policing operation planned throughout the tournament, which starts tomorrow.
Officers will be deployed to manage increased demand around England’s matches, with live screenings planned at venues around Banbury and Brackley.
Police are urging supporters to drink responsibly and look out for one another while enjoying the games.
Extra resources will also be focused on tackling anti-social behaviour and supporting vulnerable people. Officers will carry out welfare checks on those at increased risk of domestic abuse and encourage anyone needing help to contact police or support services.
Superintendent Ade Hall, Gold Commander for the operation, said: “We are well prepared for the World Cup and have well-rehearsed and robust plans in place to help keep people safe while they enjoy the tournament.
“You can expect firm, fair and friendly policing throughout. We’re not here to spoil anyone’s fun, but we will take action where behaviour crosses the line into intimidation, violence or public disorder.”
