Protesters set to meet Thames Water over sewage being dumped into local rivers

Today’s meeting follows a protest in January
People who protested against sewage being dumped by Thames Waster into our local rivers and canals will get to meet the company face-to-face this afternoon.
At the end of January around 50 people came together in Banbury town centre to demonstrate against sewage releases into the river in Cropredy and Boddington. This then flows through Banbury.
Following that Thames Water invited representatives from the group to Banbury Sewage Treatment Works to discuss the issues face to face. That meeting starts at 1.30pm today.
More people wanted to attend the meeting than the spaces that were available and so its hoped a larger, public meeting can be arranged.
On January 8 we reported that the Thames Water treatment works at Bloxham and Boddington had been pouring raw sewage into our area’s rivers non-stop since the start of the year. Official data shows that is still happening this morning (Monday) at Avon Dassett, Boddington, Farnborough, Cropredy and Bloxham. One of Banbury’s three works also used its storm drain for three hours on Sunday.
Storm drains operate when the volume of sewage arriving at a treatment works cannot be processed. The drain is opened, allowing the raw sewage to flow straight into the river, so the system doesn’t back up to people’s homes.
