Puritan’s Finley Tapp amongst those peddling for Pudsey

17/11/2023

The challenge runs between 2pm and 10pm

Puritans player and former Love Island winner Finley Tapp is leading a team from the football club peddling for charity today.

Banbury United is hosting a cyclothon in aid of Children in Need from 2pm at its clubhouse at Station Approach.

For eight-hours players, supporters and club directors will each take a 30-minute stint on an exercise bike.   Members of the public are invited to go along and cheer on the cyclists.   Donations can be made by cash or through a dedicated Just Giving page.

Alongside Finley Tapp, taking a stint on the bike will be fellow players Lawson D’Ath and Jack Harding and First Team Manager Mark Jones.   Banbury United chairman, Ronnie Johnson and Banbury Town Mayor, Councillor Fiaz Ahmed will also be taking a turn, joined by England touch rugby player Laura Anderson, Club ambassador, Mark Allit and a number of others.

Banbury United board director Lisa Dixon said: “The Club wanted to do something to support Children in Need and to have some fun involving players and the local community.   As the Children in Need theme this year is to ‘be SPOTacular’ and ‘challenge yourself’ we thought a cyclothon would be a great idea. We are able to physically challenge ourselves while being in the warm and close to the bar!”

Finley Tapp signed to the Puritans for the 2023-24 season, wearing the number 5 shirt in a central defender position.   He said: “I’m really happy to lead the Banbury United cyclothon in aid of Children in Need and to raise as much money as we can for the initiative’s excellent causes.

“There was a suggestion initially that I do several hours on the bike, but luckily, we recently got drawn in an FA Trophy match on the next day and the manager says I can’t overdo it!”

Donations can be made here.

Banbury United are set to face Nuneaton Borough in an FA Trophy game on Saturday.
