Red Lion expansion plans replicate a successful village pub format

A micro-brewery and expanded dining and drinking areas are included

A planning application has been submitted to make a number of changes to the Red Lion in Bloxham to enable the pub to become a more versatile and viable business.

Currently the pub generates much of its revenue from food.

The landlord wants to build a rear extension, creating a separate area for drinking and dining, replicating a format which has proven successful in other village pubs.

As a brewer he also wants to create a micro-brewery in the cellar area.

The dining space will also double as a small events area through all seasons, as the current garden marquee can only feasibly operate during the warmer months.

From the rear gardens of adjoining properties the building will appear as a single storey ground floor rear extension, although it will actually be two stories due the slope of the land.

The Red Lion is located off the High Street within Bloxham conservation area, although the building itself isn’t listed.

The public have until April 3 to comment on the application, with a decision expected later in the month.
