Second attempt at gaining permission for units on Grimsbury site
01/06/2026

An earlier application was refused due to its close proximity to housing
An application to build commercial units on land which had been allocated for new housing in Grimsbury will be considered again this week.
In April last year Councillors refused the request from E5 Commercial to construct ten commercial units and car parking on land off Higham Way, alongside the Grundon Waste Management site.
Before that, in 2016, an outline application to build 200 homes on the site was submitted, but subsequently withdrawn. Since then it has remained unused.
Existing housing lies to the east and north of the development on Marshall Road and Verney Road. Councillors had been concerned about the impact the development would have on local residents, including the potential extra noise at unsociable hours.
The latest revised application comprises three rectangular, single storey buildings which would be divided into 9 separate units. The two smaller buildings would be situated along the northern edge of the site with the largest along the southern boundary. All are now further away from neighbouring housing than the first application.
In addition, the latest submission removes a number of uses for the buildings, including heavy manufacturing, assembly, and repairs.
Planning officers have recommended this scheme be approved, subject to conditions. But a legal agreement has not yet been completed and this could affect the decision by councillors, when they meet on Thursday afternoon.
