Northamptonshire Police have spent months preparing for the event
The gates are now open for the four-day British Grand Prix weekend at Silverstone.
Today’s highlights include an historic Formula 1 Car Demonstration, driver interviews with George Russell and Lando Norris and music sets by Blossoms and Sam Fender.
At least 480,000 people are expected to attend what is the UK’s largest sporting event, with 160,000 set to watch Sunday’s main race at the circuit.
Northamptonshire Police have spent months preparing for the event to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience.
As well as uniformed and plain-clothed police officers patrolling the circuit, the campsites and the surrounding villages and road network, there will also be specialist resources including armed officers, search teams, disruption officers and Automatic Number Plate Recognition units. Live Facial Recognition equipment will be in operation at the circuit.
The Event Commander, Superintendent Pete Basham, said: “This is a major operation involving a wide range of policing resources, as well as support from other emergency services and partner agencies. Officers will be patrolling the circuit, the campsites and local area throughout the event. Our priority is to keep the public safe and arrest anyone committing a crime.”
Visitors to the circuit are also warned that flares, smoke bombs and pyrotechnics are not allowed and the flying of drones near the circuit is strictly prohibited.
For those heading to the circuit, on Saturday and Sunday a one-way system will be introduced on the main A43 between the Abthorpe Roundabout at Towcester and the junction with the B4525 interchange near Syresham. All roads in the area are expected to be busy and motorists are advised to expect delays.
