Spring makeover for Banbury Cross floral frames
22/05/2025

Over 200 local people were involved in the project
For the third year Banbury Cross has been given a spring makeover thanks to local textile artist Anne-Marie Cadman and a band of creative local people.
As part of the Round and Round programme, Anne-Marie worked with Cherwell District Council’s landscaping, wellbeing and communities teams and a number of local organisations to repurpose three hobby horse floral frames.
Over 200 local people were also involved in the project at workshops in April and May. Together they created spring-inspired designs, which also include a maypole.
The four structures were installed at the Cross earlier this month and will remain on display until early autumn.
Councillor Rob Pattenden, Portfolio Holder for Healthy Communities, said: “I am always inspired and heartened to see so many of our community coming together to create something that represents Banbury so beautifully. A massive thank you to all our residents, children and community groups who have come together and given their time to create such a colourful welcome to Banbury Cross.
“Art is a universal way for people to come together; it thrives when people connect. These workshops highlight the amazing things people can achieve when they come together for a common goal. It was lovely to see so many people learning new skills, building new friendships and having big smiles on their faces.”
The local organisations also involved in the project were Banbury MIND, Grimsbury Community Centre, Banbury Larder, Orinoco, The Hill Community Centre and All Things Woolly.
