MP Sean Woodcock: “It is vital that we invest in our local art and cultural spaces, which serve as the heartbeat of our community”

A government investment of £135,000 in The Mill Arts Centre has been described as “a brilliant first step in the venue’s journey toward safeguarding future creative opportunities for local communities”.

The cash is coming from the Creative Foundation Fund and will be used to repair the aging building infrastructure and renovate currently inaccessible spaces, ensuring the Mill is inclusive and welcoming to all members of the community, enhancing the visitor experience.

Beyond physical repairs, its hoped the money will spark a cultural and economic revival for The Mill, enabling the venue to increase creative opportunities for local artists and performers, boost skills, and attract a wider range of visitors.

The funding is a portion of the government’s £127.8 million investment in 130 cultural venues.

Banbury MP, Sean Woodcock, said: “I am delighted to share that the Mill Arts Centre will be receiving this £135,000 investment.   This money will be fundamental to the Centre’s future, allowing them to improve infrastructure and increase cultural opportunities in the town.

“It is vital that we invest in our local art and cultural spaces, which serve as the heartbeat of our community. I can’t wait to see the difference this money will make in fostering talent and bringing people together in Banbury.”

A spokesperson for The Mill Arts Centre told Banbury FM: “We are thrilled to be one of the arts organisations to benefit from the Creative Foundations Fund!   A big thank you to the Arts Council and DCMS – this investment will strengthen The Mill’s environmental, financial and operational sustainability and resilience.

“This is a brilliant first step in our journey toward safeguarding future creative opportunities for local communities.”
