Thames Water urges care using water

During the last heatwave demand exceeded supply

Thames Water is urging customers to use less water as temperatures rise into the 30s again this week.

During the recent heatwave, demand across the region rose to almost three billion litres a day – that’s around 20 percent higher than normal – putting supplies under significant pressure.

At one point people were using water faster than the company could supply it through their network.

Whilst no ban is officially in force people are being asked to avoid using hosepipes and sprinklers, whilst also taking shorter showers and reusing water where possible.

Thames Water says it has increased leak repairs and water production to help keep supplies flowing but warns that continued hot, dry weather could make it harder to meet demand.
