United by Unique campaign launches on World Cancer Day
04/02/2025

Look out for the common symptoms of cancer
Today is World Cancer Day and the start of a three-year campaign aimed at emphasising the importance of personalised, empathetic, and inclusive cancer care.
The Thames Valley Cancer Alliance is supporting the initiative, which puts the focus on individual stories, recognising that every cancer journey is unique.
Under the banner of “United by Unique” the campaign aims to highlight personal stories and encourage personalised care, along with striving for equal access to high-quality cancer care for all, irrespective of their background.
The Thames Valley Cancer Alliance say that awareness plays a critical role in reducing the impact of cancer through early detection, education and community action.
Common symptoms people should look out for include unexplained weight loss, persistent fatigue or pain, unusual lumps or changes in the skin and changes in bowel or bladder habits.
GP and clinical lead Anant Sachdev said: “There are some small steps to help lower your risk of developing cancer which we can all do with a little effort. Don’t smoke, don’t drink alcohol to excess, eat a balanced diet, maintain a healthy weight, and get vaccinated when offered. You know your body best and if you think something is not normal, contact your GP Practice’’
