Entering open water can be very tempting on a warm day

With the weather having turned warmer and temperatures set to rise over the next couple of days, Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service are reminding us of the dangers of open water, particularly for those who have consumed alcohol.

Entering open water can be very tempting on a warm day, but there are many dangers in doing so, some of which can be hidden under the surface.

In a video message Deb Forder from the Fire and Rescue Service focused on the advice of never entering the water under the influence of alcohol.

She said: “If you’ve been drinking don’t go near the water’s edge as this increases your risk of falling in.   Also, if you’ve had a drink, don’t go swimming.

“If somebody falls in, don’t be tempted to jump in and attempt to rescue them.   If you’ve been drinking call 999 and let us know your location.”

Temperatures in Banbury are forecast to reach 27 Celcius this Thursday.
