Work begins on new football facility at Chandos Close Recreation Ground

The initiative will be part of the Football Association’s national PlayZone Programme
Work on a new football facility at the Chandos Close Recreation Ground in Grimsbury started yesterday (Monday).
The new mini pitch will be primarily used for football but will be versatile enough for other sports as well.
The facility is the result of a partnership between Banbury Town Council, Cherwell District Council and the Football Foundation, who are providing 75 percent of the funding. The remaining 25 percent is coming from monies paid by developers for local facilities as part of the planning process. Banbury Town Council has provided the land and will manage and maintain the facility.
The initiative will be part of the Football Association’s national PlayZone Programme, which aims to improve access to sports facilities – particularly in communities facing barriers to physical activity.
Councillor Shaida Hussain, Chairman of Banbury Town Council’s Resources Committee, said the completed project would be a “state-of-the-art facility designed for groups of all ages and backgrounds”. She added: “It has been designed from the ground up for amateur squads and established teams alike, and we’re excited to see the talented players of present and future whose skills it helps to develop upon completion.”
PlayZones are designed to be inclusive, safe, well-lit environments with activation plans and booking systems in place to ensure they serve those who will benefit from them the most.
