Wroxton fishing lakes plan recommended for refusal

A case officer felt the scheme representing an unsustainable form of development in the open countryside

Plans to create fishing lakes and build accommodation lodges on a green field site just outside Wroxton will be refused next week – if Councillors on Cherwell District Council’s Planning Committee follow an officer’s recommendation.

ATE Farms wants to introduce two fishing lakes and two nursery lakes on farmland off the Stratford Road, close to the Indian Queen restaurant and adjacent to the area which was historically used as a Moto Cross track.

Alongside the fishing lakes 15 accommodation lodges, 8 pods and a management building were proposed.

The applicant said the scheme would “provide opportunities for people to visit the site and enjoy time outdoors in an attractive environment as part of a healthier lifestyle.”

In proposing the application be refused Cherwell’s planning officer expressed their concern that the site is in a location which would rely on private cars for access, representing an unsustainable form of development in the open countryside.

They also believe that the engineering work involved and location of structures within the site would have an unacceptable urbanising effect on the rural landscape.

Wroxton Parish Council didn’t comment on the application, but Hornton Parish Council felt there was no identified need or economic case for the development and Oxfordshire County Council objected due to insufficient information being provided on surface water drainage.

The Planning Committee will make their decision on the application next Thursday.
