Pupils have been asked to work from home on Tuesday

A small fire in an electrical substation has left a Banbury secondary school having to close today (Tuesday).   Wykham Park Academy and the Futures Institute have no power on site and have asked pupils to work from home.

The fire on Monday was in an electrical substation by the school’s main entrance.  The fire brigade attended promptly and it was made safe.

However, as a result of the incident the mains electricity supply to the whole school site has been lost.   Engineers are conducting urgent investigation work.

Parents have been asked to keep their children at home with work being set for them to complete online.

Further updates will be given with regards to the school reopening.

A message to parents from School Heads Julia Ingham and Carly Berry said: “Due to an ongoing issue with lack of power, our school site will be closed  Tuesday whilst further investigations take place.

“We will be posting work for all students on google classrooms to complete during the day tomorrow. If your child has difficulties logging into the google classroom please ask them to email either Mrs Palmer at Wykham Park lpalmer@wykhampark-aspirations.org or Miss Smart at Futures Institute csmart@futures-aspirations.org who will be happy to assist them.

“We will provide updates via email and on our school facebook pages.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your ongoing support.”
