Young Gardeners Turn People’s Park into a Pooh-Inspired Wonderland
18/06/2026

9,450 plants were used in the creations
Hundreds of schoolchildren from the Banbury area transformed part of People’s Park into a colourful celebration of Winnie-the-Pooh, with the return of Planting Day in the Park for 2026.
Pupils from 12 primary schools planted around 9,450 flowers in the park’s Rose Garden, creating eye-catching displays inspired by characters and locations from A.A. Milne’s much-loved stories, which mark their centenary this year.
The annual event, organised by Banbury Town Council, challenges schools to design and plant themed flowerbeds, encouraging teamwork, creativity and an appreciation of nature.
When the displays were complete a panel of judges selected the winners with town councillor Rebecca Biegel awarding the prizes.

The Grange won Gold for Best Planted Bed, while St Mary’s School took top honours for Best Centrepiece.
Planting Day in the Park is one of the council’s flagship community events, helping young people learn about horticulture while brightening one of Banbury’s most popular green spaces.
