Statement by government on Wednesday will feed into potential for Puritans to resume playing

A decision on the resumption of games for Banbury United won’t be taken until the implications of the review of the tier system in England takes place.   The government are due to give an update on the tier system on Wednesday this week.

The Trident Leagues (which includes the Southern Football League in which the Puritans play) has issued a statement following the announcement last week that some fans would be allowed into grounds situated in Tier 3 areas.   However, it said light of the decision of all 224 Clubs last week in favour of suspending, a further decision would not be taken until the results of the government’s review were known.

The full statement says: “The Trident Leagues (the Isthmian, Northern Premier and Southern Football Leagues) welcome the decision to allow some fans into grounds situated in Tier 3 areas.

“However, in light of the decision of all 224 clubs only last week to vote overwhelmingly in favour of suspending the current season, the leagues have decided to wait to see the implications of the Government’s review of the Tier system in England – due on Wednesday (December 16th) – before making any further announcements”.
