Investigation underway after reports a firearm was discharged outside a residence

A number of gunshots were fired during an incident in Banbury’s Sinclair Avenue on Sunday evening.   Thames Valley Police say that a firearm was reported as being discharged at around 9.30pm.

They believe the occupants of a car pulled up in Sinclair Avenue and a number of shots were fired outside a residence.   The vehicle is believed to be a VW Tiguan or similar.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses.

Senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Larry Johnson, Crime Manager for Cherwell and West Oxfordshire, said: “This is a concerning incident and as a result we are carrying out a thorough investigation following a number of lines of enquiry, and the premises and scene are being searched by special trained officers and our CSI teams.

“We are keeping an open mind as to the reasons behind this incident, but at this time we do not believe there was a wider danger to the public.

“Our patrols we will be stepped up in the area and members of the public will see an increased police presence whilst we conduct our enquiries.

“We would ask anyone who has information or may have CCTV footage to please get in touch if they feel they may be able to assist our investigation.”

No one was injured during the incident.
