The list includes Banbury recipients of OBEs and an MBE
Four local people have received honours in the King’s Birthday Honours List today.
Harry Dunn’s mum, Charlotte Charles receives an MBE for services to road safety. Ms Charles, from Charlton, told the BBC: “From the moment I lost Harry, I knew I had to keep the promise I made to him – to fight for justice, and to make sure his death would lead to change.
“I’ve never viewed myself as a campaigner. I’m simply a mum trying to do right by her son.
“If Harry’s death has meant others now live safer lives, if victims are treated with more compassion, if a few more lives are saved, then I accept this honour for him, and for every person who walked this journey with us.”
Adderbury resident Gareth Stapleton has been awarded an OBE for services to architecture and to project and construction management. Mr Stapleton is a founder and partner of RiSE International and in 2023 was named on the Top 100 Influential People list, with judges highlighting his reputation as a true agent of industry change and praising his professional record, encompassing architecture, consultancy, entrepreneurship, academia and authorship.
Finaly Scott from Shennington also receives an OBE for the work he does as the co-founder and chair of the Clink Charity. They provide an opportunity for people in prison to gain new skills and qualifications in catering and horticulture to steer them away from re-offending when they leave prison.
Avis Gallager was awarded a British Empire Medal for services to the community in Banbury in respect of her role volunteering with the Cornhill Companions.
