Hosepipe ban introduced for parts of our area
10/07/2026

Hosepipes, sprinklers, pressure washers, dripper hoses and automatic irrigation systems can’t be used
As the hot spell continues Anglian Water have introduced a hosepipe ban for their customers.
Whilst the ban comes into force at midnight tonight the company is asking people to start following the restrictions immediately.
In an email to customers they said: “This year has been exceptionally hot and dry and we’re already into the third heatwave of the summer. Our teams are working 24/7 to keep taps flowing across the region, but the prolonged hot weather is putting water supplies under pressure.
“Every extra day of hot weather makes it harder to balance supply and demand for water, making it more important than ever that everyone uses water wisely.
“River levels across the region are already low, so to help protect these essential water sources and make sure water is available for everyone, it’s important we all take action now.”
The hosepipe ban, or temporary use ban, is the first issued by Anglian Water since 2012 and in addition to hosepipes covers the use of sprinklers, pressure washers, dripper hoses and automatic irrigation systems connected to the mains water supply.
In our area Anglian Water supplies homes and businesses in Northamptonshire. Supplies in Oxfordshire are provided by Thames Water. On Wednesday they urged people to use less water in the face of a surge in demand.
Yesterday Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service also asked people to use less water, warning of a fall in water pressure in some areas of Oxfordshire, particularly near Bicester.
They said: “As a fire and rescue service, we know how important a reliable water supply is when responding to emergencies. While this situation isn’t affecting our ability to respond, we’re supporting efforts to help reduce demand during the current hot weather.”
