Only use water for essential activities or taps may run dry

Anglian Water’s system is struggling to cope in the hot weather

People living in Upper Boddington, Eydon, Chipping Warden and the surrounding areas should only use water for essential activities like drinking, cooking and washing.   That’s the message from Anglian Water who are blaming problems with low or no water pressure on demand across their network.

The situation is likely to remain for the rest of the week and into the weekend.

The provider says demand for water is much higher than usual due to the hot weather.   This has led to them having to make some changes to their network “to make sure as many people as possible have water”.

Earlier we reported that a problem first became apparent in some parts of the area yesterday morning with Anglian Water understood to be fixing a pumping issue.   When the issue persisted to today they reported that a specialist telemetry team were on the way with the intention of resetting a fault with the pumps.

However, this afternoon the company’s website is blaming pressure on the wider network and asking the public to only use water for essential activities like drinking, cooking and washing.

A statement on the Anglian Water website says: “We’ve had to make some changes to our network to make sure as many people as possible have water from their taps (even if it’s at a lower pressure than normal).   We expect these changes to be in place throughout this week and into the weekend while we’ve got the warmer weather.

“To help keep as much water in the network as possible and avoid interruptions to your water supply, you should try and only use water for essential activities like drinking, cooking and washing.

“We’ll keep you updated but, in the meantime, thanks for your patience.”
